Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had an amazing Christmas and New Years! It was so great visiting with everyone at our meeting yesterday and catching up on every one's busy December. Thank you to Table #3 for a delicious breakfast! The dish voted the best was Angela Zwirtz's Sausage and Cream Cheese Croissants. You can get the recipe in the Recipe Tab above or click HERE.

Jan started us out with a great reminder. We need to be the best that WE can be as ourselves. We will never be the best someone else is. Use YOUR strengths to be the best that you can be both physically, mentally, and spiritually and you can't go wrong.

We were blessed with a wonderful speaker, Guy Duke, a financial adviser at Edward Jones. January is the month a lot of people decide to get their finances in order for the year and years ahead.  Guy explained that a great way to start doing that is to set priorities.
  • First priority should NOT be money. That sounds odd coming from a finance professional. Money is important but our first priority in all that we do should always be God.
  • Second is tithing. Tithing is mentioned many times in the bible. One example is Proverbs 3:9-10 "Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firtsfuls of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine."  Common practice is tithing 10%, but more when able is encouraged.
  • Next is savings. You should have an "Emergency Fund" of at least $1000. This $$ is for emergencies only and should not be touched for anything else. Then there is your actual savings. It is recommended that you have at least 3-6 months salary in your savings.
  • After that comes investing. Your first investment should be retirement. There are many ways to invest in your retirement, so find the one what suits you and your family the best.
  • And last but not least is investing in your children's college. There are several ways to do this as well, and again just find the one that fits your family and financial situation.

Our craft this month was t-shirt scarves. Scarves are definitely in this year, so this was the perfect craft for us to try. There were so many neat ideas and ways to do this. With everyone helping one another we came up with some really pretty creations. If you missed the meeting or just want some more ideas head on over to Pinterest and search t-shirt scarves (except you Summer lol).

We'd like to give a warm "Welcome Back" to Rachel Van Pelt! So glad you came on Tuesday and hope to see you again in February!
